Things I Wish I Had Known Sooner #1

Have you ever wondered what the makes the difference in peoples lives?

Sometime ago The WSJ ran an advert about two guys who went to the same college, had better than average grades and started work at the same company on the same day. Twenty five years later one of them had become the manager of his department, the other was the President of the entire company. In advert, the WSJ went in to claim the difference in their career was down the information the President gained from reading and applying the knowledge in their paper everyday.

It was a very successful advert and ran for many years.

It’s relatable.

Many years after, I still relate to it.

Despite being told the contrary, there are others seeking what you want. Most especially at this time where Covid – 19 is sweeping through organisations and making many people redundant.

The truth is some people despite their best efforts will never recover from the devastation left behind. They will fall into the pile of employees who were “also-rans.” This is a fact of life.

But one thing is certain. The people with a better chance of bouncing back are those who know that everyday has a purpose and they go out and create it.

There is so much bad news out there.

News helps shape and define purpose. This is why one person will see opportunities while others don’t.

There is nothing wrong in listening to the news to understand trends and an idea of what’s going on. The trouble is when you buy into the news and let it mould you.

There was a time when all I did was pray. And my life didn’t change. I began to doubt God.

I fell into the trap of believing God didn’t want me to have to have what I wished for. I became a bystander with life. Until I understood successful people made daily plan’s.

They made congruent plans that led to a specific outcome. Their days had purpose. And despite starting with small beginnings, their compounding acts led to big wins.

Successful people don’t look for their purpose. They make it.

A UPS driver grew his retirement fund to $70m. He was able to achieve this feat despite not earning more than $15K because he had a purpose.

How do you plan your day? Please leave answers in the comments below.
